NAIT’s bid to host Nationals was approved today at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s annual Winter Board Meeting in Ottawa. The event will take place in Edmonton, AB, March 15-18, 2017.
“The level of support for Women’s Basketball in the community of Edmonton is second to none as evidenced by the high profile events,” said Gregg Meropoulis, Manager of Athletics at NAIT. “NAIT hosting CCAA Nationals will only add to that phenomenal energy and the CCAA as a whole will benefit from that tremendous support that already exists here.”
In recent years, Edmonton has become the centre for elite high performance Women’s Basketball in Canada. And in 2015, NAIT hosted the ACAC Women’s Basketball Conference Championships.
“NAIT did a fantastic job hosting the Conference Championships and received rave reviews from the student-athletes participating,” said Thom Gillespie, CCAA Women’s Basketball Convenor. “The Ooks have a great organizing committee who have historically been superb in staging CCAA and ACAC events that create memories to last a lifetime for all involved.”
The 2016 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship will be hosted by St. Clair College in Windsor, ON, March 16-19.
