Matchups set for Men's Basketball National Championship

Holland Hurricanes (3) vs.

The Hurricanes defeated the MSVU Mystics 94-68 for the ACAA Championship. Led by guard Trevone Grant, Holland was simply dominant this season, finishing atop the conference with a 22-1 record. The Hurricanes will take on les Nomades, who defeated the Saint-Lambert Cavaliers 83-74 to capture the RSEQ title. Montmorency went 11-3 during the regular season and finished in a tie for first with the Cavaliers.

Humber Hawks (2) vs. Camosun Chargers (7)

The defending National Champion Hawks defeated rival Mohawk 86-79 in the OCAA Championship final. Humber went 13-5 in the regular season to finish in a tie for third place in the OCAA’s West Division. They’ll face the wildcard Chargers, the Cinderella team of the CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship. The Chargers, the sixth seed in the PACWEST playoffs, upset the No. 2 seeded Quest Kermodes 84-64 in the conference semi-finals. Camosun, defeated by VIU in the final, earned the PACWEST wildcard position.

NAIT Ooks (4) vs. Mohawk Mountaineers (5)

Thursday, March 17 at 6 p.m. (MST)
NAIT captured the ACAC Championship with a thrilling 71-69 victory over the Medicine Hat Rattlers. The Ooks finished second behind Keyano in the ACAC’s North Division with an 18-6 record. NAIT will face the Mountaineers, the OCAA’s wildcard entry. Mohawk was defeated by Humber in the OCAA Championship final. The Mountaineers went 14-4 in the regular season, finishing second in their division.

VIU Mariners (1) vs. Keyano Huskies (8)

Thursday, March 17 at 8 p.m. (MST)
The Mariners cruised to a 97-73 victory over the Camosun Chargers in the PACWEST final. Led by Josh Ross, VIU led the conference with an incredible 21-0 record this season and sat atop the CCAA rankings for most of 2015-16. They’ll face the host Huskies, who finished atop the ACAC’s North Division with a 19-5 record. After being defeated by Medicine Hat in the conference semi-finals, the Huskies downed Red Deer 97-82 to capture the ACAC bronze medal.
