"The CCAA is pleased to announce its new recruits for the 2016-17 Female Apprentice Coach Program and the caliber of both the mentor and apprentice this season is exceptional," said Sandra Murray-MacDonell, CCAA Executive Director.

"The mentor coaches experience and qualifications are well above the bar set by the CCAA and all the apprentices have had some leadership and coaching experiences, whether formally or informally."

The apprentice and mentor partnership provides the potential to launch a coaching career by giving former student-athlete hands on experience as well as professional development opportunities.

"The FACP has far reaching benefits for the Canadian Sport Systems as a feeder system for coaches to Provincial and National team programs," said Murray-MacDonell.

"The shortage of qualified women coaches is an issue and the CCAA is addressing some of these issues by providing opportunities for women to coach and increase their level of competence to progress with confidence in coaching."

The 15 apprentices will be monitored throughout the season via progress reports.

Profiles on our apprentices and mentors will be released prior to the 2016-17 season. To follow our apprentices throughout the year, search #CCAAfacp on Twitter.
